Course Content
The course covers a range of First Aid for Mental Health topics, including:
- What is First Aid for Mental Health?
- Identifying common mental health conditions
- Providing advice and starting supportive conversations
- Understanding and managing stress
- Recognising the effects of drugs and alcohol
- Developing a First Aid for Mental Health action plan
- Implementing First Aid for Mental Health in the workplace
Assessment and Certification
Learners will be assessed through a combination of practical demonstrations and written or verbal questioning (open and multiple-choice).
Upon successful completion, participants will receive:
FAA Level 2 Award in First Aid for Mental Health (RQF)
or
Award in First Aid for Mental Health at SCQF Level 5
The qualification achieved depends on the learner’s location:
- RQF Level 2 – for learners in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland
- SCQF Level 5 – for learners in Scotland
The qualification is valid for three years from the date of achievement. Annual refresher training is strongly recommended. To requalify after three years, learners must complete the full course again.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Recognise a range of mental health conditions
- Offer initial support and reassurance to individuals in distress
- Create and apply a First Aid for Mental Health action plan
- Promote a positive mental health culture within their organisation
